Father’s Day: Finding the Men Who Shaped Our Stories

As Father's Day approaches, I've been thinking about the role fathers play in our family stories—not just the fathers we know, but sometimes the fathers we're still trying to find.

Family history research often begins with a simple question. Who were they? What were they like? Where did we come from? Sometimes those questions lead us to fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers whose stories have been forgotten with time. Other times, they lead us to answers that previous generations never had the chance to discover.

In my own family's journey, researching my mother's biological father opened a door that had been closed for decades. The search wasn't easy. It required patience, organization, and a willingness to follow every clue. There were moments of frustration and moments of hope, but each record, photograph, and piece of evidence brought us closer to the truth.
